You will see from the photographs that not ALL
Rottys are bad!
It is due to the uneducated few that think lets get a
Rotty pup all small cuddly and sweet, but then
they grow into adult dogs and if you have not set bounderies for the pup, you now have an adult Rotty
that will do as it as done since being a pup.
You now have a 9 stone, 12 month old Rotty, you
train and train and spend time working with him/her
that is if you are responsible and know what you doing. For the most the Rotty is chained up out back out of
the way not socialising, the kids have long since
stopped bothering with the 'new' puppy and it is not
being exercised. All of a sudden you have a bored, neglected and often confused Rotty that all he/her
wants to do is love and be loved and acts the way
you have trained it to from an early puppy age which
was to sit on furniture, sleep on your bed, go where
you go, eat first, walk out the door first. Until you
decide that one day the 12 month old Rotty is taking
up too much space on the couch, on your bed and is pulling you out the door with excitement pulling up
the garden path and road, you now have no control
when walking him/her, or in your house.
As with all dogs, they need constant supervision
with children, they may have been used to children
in your house but make sure when other children
are in your house that they are not left alone with
them, dogs are pack animals and will see any other person as a threat to its pack.
Rottys are rated as the 9th most intellegent dogs,
out of all breeds ranked, so they need stimulation, boundaries and respect, if they are not given this
they will soon learn to amuse themselves and can
become very hard to handle. Its up to us as owners
to make sure this loving, affectionate and powerful
Rotty is not allowed to become something we no
longer want or a headline story.
If you need information or help with how to make
sure your Rotty stays a loveable family pet, please contact your local dog training class and also see information on our forums. We are all respectable
Rotty owners and know the charactaristics and
behaviours well.
Lets give our breed a chance to shine, if you have
any pictures you would like us to show please send
them in, not all Rottys are bad!
